Cost: $150.
(instruction, hand outs, presses, black ink, some colors, screen fill, newsprint)
Plus materials, about $50-200
(screens, stencils, ink colors)
We'll discuss fine art printing, the various types of printing (intaglio,
relief, planographic, stencil, electronic etc), and the gamut of screenprinting
methods and styles. I'll demonstrate a range of printing and stencil techniques
and students will design and produce projects utilizing whatever form and
content suits their interests. I'll help you develop your ideas both creatively
and technically; you'll realize them as dramatic black & white or vibrant
color serigraphs. In addition to extensive printing, we'll look at hundreds
of examples of prints by students, famous artists, and print workshops across
America.
Before the workshop we'll communicate to identify your interests and introduce
screenprinting concepts and materials. Then our Saturday begins at a large
screenprinting supply shop where you can pick up a few items to complete
the course or everything you need to set up a home screenprint studio. Next
we'll proceed to my studio for an intensive day of instruction, demonstrations
and producing your work.
By workshop's end students should have a good handle on direct and indirect
methods of producing hard edge and painterly imagery. You'll know everything
you need to set up a home studio, and can always call or email for free
advice, or you can rent time in this studio on Saturdays for $35/day.
