in 1996 the web was much newer to me and when the xena closing credits said “go to the xena website” i obeyed i discovered a fan run mailgroup called the xenaverse folks there called themselves xenites after a vital ore consignment that a legendary captain once had to rescue from some troglodytes here i was amazed to discover a wide range of folks obsessed with contemporary narrative television obsessed with big eyed wild fantasy cartoon adventures a totally empowered self-reliant woman who saw injustice and tried to right it among them amazingly was a co-executive producer and writer of the show who went by the handle of tyldus tyldus, the great aka steven l. sears |
a military kid visited 48 states and 14 countries before the age of 14 finally his dad retired to florida he got a theater degree from fsu moved to los angeles went on auditions waited on tables in a serendipitous moment reminiscent of an old boss of mine who’d been a performer made a few props to use on stage and eventually wound up art department manager steve wrote scenes to use in his auditions a casting director suggested he write a script a year and a half later he was a staff writer at stephen j. cannell over a dozen series later he found himself putting words in the mouth of the warrior princess in between offering net guidance to wannabe writers and enticing fans with trivia he consistently produced many of the show’s most compelling scripts fantasy, adventure and compelling a pretty great hat trick |
