If ed brokaw
taught me the spirituality of editing a film scene then certainly judy gantz taught me the spirituality of walking down the street judys effort/shape class was the most frustrating/exhilarating class i have ever known in it i experienced a wider range of utter failure and ebullient success than i have ever elsewhere known one day judyd ask us to create some haiku movement my utter missing of the point so complete critique was virtually impossible a day or two later id find judys class so elevating that afterward id walk down westwood boulevard and without ever opening my mouth radiate so much i-dont-know-what that every stranger id pass felt compelled to smile and say hello |
once judy took me to a workshop somewhere in los angeles with master teacher irmgard bartenieff irmgard gave us movement experiences she came by moved my arm around for a while it was an interesting but i thought not extraordinary day when it was done as these sorts of events are wont to do we formed a big circle clasped hands and said thanks sarah the girl holding my left hand wept which i thought given the modest event was a somewhat over-the-top response years later now looking back on these precious moments of movement with a great teacher who stirs the soul perhaps i finally understand sarahs tears |
