Misty May
|
misty may is a warrior
i did not realize this when i first read about the charming symmetry of brad may playing for usa volleyball in the mexico city olympics of 68 and how his daughter after spending a little time picking up back-to-back ncaa player of the year awards the female college athlete of the year award and leading long beach state to a national championship at the first-ever meeting between two 36-0 teams would inevitably be the starting setter for usa volleyball at sydney 2000 misty may is a warrior i did not realize this when i photographed her and wished that shed had her roommates easy smile and accessible persona misty may is a warrior amazingly i did not realize this even after watching her utterly totally dominate a volleyball court |
only to an hour later be the very last player to trickle out of the post game locker room with massive bags of ice strapped to every joint watching as she barefoot feebly pathetically limped across the court she had an hour earlier owned misty may is a warrior and even i the blind photographer found this fact obvious the instant i threw her transparencies on the glass and pressed a magnified eye up to one people compete for many reasons for challenge for sport for glory for pleasure im sure all of these are reasons misty may competes but more i think she competes because there is a battle to be won in an era of tired superlatives she truly gives 100% and when the battle is won theres nothing left |
